چکیده

F2 transition parameters including F2 onset and offset frequency and locus equations have been studied for Persian affricates /ʤ, ʧ and homorganic dental plosives /d, t/ and post alveolar fricatives /ʒ, ʃ/. The F2 offset frequencies hierarchy is follow: post alveolar fricatives> affricates> dental plosives. This parameter makes a significant difference among mentioned consonants; however it does not show voicedunvoiced contrast. F2 onset does not provide regular results and locus equations coefficients do not show a significant difference between affricates and homorganic consonants.

Production and perception of Vietnamese final stop consonants /p, t, k/

The bursts and voiced formant transitions are well known as separate cues to the place of articulation of initial stop consonant. The Vietnamese presents three final voiceless stop consonants /p, t, k/ without bursts. It is an opportunity to study these final stop consonants and to compare their characteristics with those of the corresponding initial stop consonants. This paper analyses these f...

Word boundary detection using landmarks: a survey of consonants

This project searches for consistent acoustic attributes in a broad set of American English consonants that would help in identifying their word positions in running speech. A database of sentences containing word pairs (e.g. "lay keys" vs. "lake ease" for /k/) of thirteen consonants (six stops, two affricates, three fricatives, and two nasals), controlled for prosodic boundaries, pitch accents...

Acoustic Analysis of the Persian Fricative-affricate Contrast

Acoustic analysis of 18 words spoken in citation form by 10 male native speakers of Persian suggests that each of the following parameters can cue the post-alveolar fricative-affricate contrast in isolated word forms in Persian: silence duration, frication duration, rise time and amplitude rise slope. The acoustic values of each cue differ with the position of the test item in the word. Silence...

Weighted Constraints and Gradient Restrictions on Place Co - Occurrence in Muna and Arabic

This paper documents a restriction against the co-occurrence of homorganic consonants in the root morphemes of Muna, a western Austronesian language, and compares the Muna pattern with the much-studied similar pattern in Arabic. As in Arabic, the restriction applies gradiently: its force depends on the place of articulation of the consonants involved, and on whether the homorganic consonants ar...

Acoustic analysis of Mandarin affricates

This work investigated the relationship between acoustic parameters and phonetic features for six Mandarin affricates. The acoustic parameters under study included normalized duration, normalized amplitude, spectral energy distribution, and F2 onset of the following vowel, while the phonetic features under study included place of articulation, state of aspiration, and identity of the following ...
